Collins Aerospace is looking for a seasoned engineering professional with advanced technical knowledge who can independently manage engineering projects and processes across multiple disciplines. The primary role of the Repair and Overhaul Engineer is to coordinate, evaluate, and resolve complex engineering problems encountered during landing gear repair and overhaul
What You Will Do:
- Works to achieve day-to-day objectives with major impact on operational results within work area. Problems faced are difficult and sometimes complex.
- Manage small projects or processes within area of responsibility. Works autonomously with limited oversight. May provide input or guidance to lower-level professionals with tasks and assignments.
- Problems and issues faced are general, and may require understanding of broader set of issues, and are sometimes complex. Problems typically involve consideration of multiple issues, work areas or specialties. Problems are typically solved through drawing from prior experience and analysis of issues.
- Responsible for making moderate improvements of processes, systems or products to enhance performance of work area.
- Communicate with parties within and outside of own department. May have responsibility for communicating with parties external to the organization (e.g., customers, vendors, etc.) Attend regular meetings internally and with external parties.
- Works to influence parties within and outside of work area at an operational level regarding policies, practices and procedures. Ability and willingness to interact from technician level to Program Management including customers.
- Review Engineering Specifications, Orders, Service Bulletins, Airworthiness Directives and related information to maintain current knowledge of repair and overhaul methods, procedures, and activities.
- Establish and maintain Engineering Work Instructions and Bills of Material (BOM) for new and existing programs.
- Serve as an engineering representative within the Value Stream and provide technical leadership for repair and overhaul issues.
- Liaise with Quality Control, Material, Production and other department personnel to provide the technical support needed to resolve issues on shop floor.
- Develop, evaluate, and improve repair and overhaul methods.
- Interpret engineering drawings and facilitate new drawings or correction of errors on drawings and documents, as identified during repair and overhaul operations.
- Review drawings prepared by other Engineering staff.
- Lead investigations of defective, damaged, or malfunctioning parts, assemblies, equipment to determine nature and scope of problem. Assist customers in identifying issues as required. Evaluate investigation findings to formulate corrective action plan and coordinate implementation of plan for rework.
- Independently lead the resolution of complex repair and overhaul engineering issues from problem identification through technical evaluation, corrective action, documentation, and implementation.
- Provides technical guidance to lower-level engineers and reviews engineering work, documentation, and technical solutions as required.
- Determine the causes of production defects and improve processes through updates to work instructions, tooling, process, programs, or equipment; present results of investigations to peers and management at Corrective Action Board (CAB).
- Evaluate damaged or nonconforming components against engineering requirements and develop technically substantiated repair, rework, or disposition recommendations within established engineering authority. Coordinate, review, and submit Salvage Repair Documents (SRDs), as required.
- Maintain records or oversee recording of information by others to ensure engineering drawings and documents are current and that engineering-related production problems and resolutions are documented.
- Participate in technical reviews of tooling designs and requirements.
- Write manufacturing plans and instructions in accordance with engineering specifications, quality requirements and safety needs.
- Independently troubleshoot complex production issues and develop technically sound solutions supporting production and project delivery.
- Complete Engineering reports and special projects as directed by the Manager of Engineering.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Typically requires a degree in Science,Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret repair requirements, and engineering part prints
- Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Familiarity with typical repair and manufacturing processes including machining, grinding, and special processes including shot-peen, welding, brazing, riveting, and coating processes including plasma spray.
- Up to 10% travel
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Experience in repair and overhaul in an aerospace environment
Landing gear experience - Strong technical writing and engineering documentation skills.
- Experience in aerospace repair development, repair engineering, manufacturing engineering, or production engineering.
- Experience in a production environment closely teaming with all levels of manufacturing stakeholders.
- Experience with aerospace materials and processes, including machining, grinding, surface treatments, coatings, NDT, shot peening, and other special processes.
- Experience with CAD software such as CATIA, Siemens NX, or AutoCAD, and experience with SAP or similar ERP systems.
- Computer experience, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
