Manager of Supplier Quality Engineering

As part of our continued growth in the United States, XNRGY is seeking an experienced Manager, Supplier Quality Engineering to join our team in Mesa, Arizona.
Position Overview
The Manager, Supplier Quality Engineering is responsible for leading plant-level supplier quality activities and protecting manufacturing operations from supplier-related quality disruptions.
This role leads and develops the Supplier Quality Engineering team while establishing the processes, priorities, and escalation mechanisms necessary to ensure supplier quality, production continuity, and continuous improvement.
The Manager will oversee supplier quality performance, containment and corrective action activities, supplier risk mitigation, and supplier development initiatives. This individual will work closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Procurement/Sourcing, Corporate Supplier Quality, and external suppliers to proactively identify and resolve supplier quality risks before they impact production.
The successful candidate will combine strong technical quality expertise with hands-on leadership and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Supplier Quality Leadership & Team Development
Lead, coach, and develop the plant Supplier Quality Engineering team.
Establish team priorities, responsibilities, performance expectations, and escalation protocols.
Provide technical guidance and leadership during complex supplier quality and production issues.
Ensure appropriate coverage and responsiveness to supplier-related production risks.
Develop team capabilities in problem-solving, supplier management, root cause analysis, auditing, and core quality tools.
Promote a culture of accountability, urgency, continuous improvement, and prevention.
Supplier Quality Performance Management
Own plant-level supplier quality performance, including PPM, supplier defects, line disruptions, repeat issues, cost of poor quality, and corrective action effectiveness.
Establish and maintain supplier quality dashboards, KPIs, and reporting mechanisms.
Review supplier performance trends and identify suppliers requiring corrective action, development, or escalation.
Lead regular supplier quality performance reviews with internal stakeholders.
Drive measurable improvements in supplier quality and reduction of supplier-related production disruptions.
Containment & Production Line Protection
Ensure rapid and effective response to supplier-related non-conformances that threaten production continuity.
Lead or oversee containment activities including sorting, rework, material segregation, controlled shipping, and supplier recovery actions.
Ensure suspect or non-conforming supplier material is appropriately controlled and does not negatively impact production.
Coordinate cross-functional response plans during critical supplier quality events.
Escalate high-impact supplier issues and ensure timely resolution.
Non-Conformance & Corrective Action Management
Oversee supplier Non-Conformance Report (NCR) and corrective action processes.
Ensure Supplier Quality Engineers and suppliers conduct effective root cause analysis using methodologies such as 8D, 5-Why, and other structured problem-solving techniques.
Review and approve supplier corrective and preventive action plans as appropriate.
Ensure corrective actions address true root causes and are validated for effectiveness prior to closure.
Identify systemic, repeat, or chronic supplier quality issues and drive permanent resolution.
Establish expectations for corrective action responsiveness, quality, and closure.
Supplier Risk Management & Development
Develop and maintain processes for identifying and managing supplier quality risks.
Establish mitigation, recovery, and escalation plans for high-risk or underperforming suppliers.
Lead supplier development initiatives focused on improving quality systems, manufacturing processes, and overall supplier performance.
Partner with Procurement/Sourcing and Corporate Supplier Quality on supplier escalation and development strategies.
Support supplier qualification, approval, and ongoing performance management activities.
Participate in supplier business reviews and executive-level supplier escalations as required.
Cross-Functional Leadership
Serve as the primary plant leadership contact for supplier quality matters.
Partner closely with Manufacturing, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Procurement/Sourcing, Engineering, and Corporate Supplier Quality.
Support new product introductions, engineering changes, supplier transitions, and production changes from a supplier quality and manufacturing risk perspective.
Ensure supplier quality requirements and risks are considered during product and process changes.
Communicate supplier quality risks, recovery plans, and performance concerns clearly to plant and functional leadership.
Drive alignment between plant operational priorities and broader supplier quality initiatives.
Supplier Compliance, Audits & Quality Systems
Ensure supplier compliance with applicable ISO, UL, regulatory, engineering, customer, and plant-specific requirements.
Lead or support supplier audits, process assessments, and quality inspections.
Ensure supplier quality documentation, NCRs, corrective actions, deviations, containment records, and performance data are accurate and properly maintained.
Support supplier qualification and approval processes.
Ensure appropriate use of quality tools including APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans, SPC, and corrective action systems where applicable.
Support continuous improvement of supplier quality processes, procedures, and governance.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering, or another related engineering field.
7+ years of progressive experience in Supplier Quality, Manufacturing Quality, or Quality Engineering within a manufacturing environment.
3+ years of leadership, supervisory, or team-lead experience within Supplier Quality, Manufacturing Quality, or a related engineering function.
Demonstrated experience managing supplier non-conformance, corrective action, containment, and supplier escalation processes.
Strong experience protecting manufacturing operations from supplier-related quality and production disruptions.
Demonstrated experience working directly with suppliers to resolve complex quality and manufacturing issues.
Strong knowledge of structured problem-solving methodologies including 8D, 5-Why, Root Cause Analysis, and CAPA.
Strong working knowledge of core quality tools including APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans, and SPC.
Experience with supplier audits, supplier qualification, and supplier performance management.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, tolerances, and technical requirements.
Strong analytical, organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication, negotiation, and supplier management capabilities.
Ability to lead multiple high-priority initiatives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience within HVAC, industrial equipment, automotive, aerospace, data center infrastructure, heavy manufacturing, or another complex engineered-product manufacturing environment.
Experience managing and developing Supplier Quality Engineers.
Experience with global suppliers and complex supply chains.
Strong knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management systems.
Experience conducting supplier process and quality system audits.
Experience with ERP and Quality Management Systems (QMS).
Lean, Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt, CQE, Lead Auditor, or similar quality certification.
Experience supporting new product introduction and supplier readiness activities.
Spanish-speaking capabilities.
