About Valar Atomics

At Valar Atomics, we're redefining what's possible in energy. Our mission is to make clean, high-temperature nuclear power scalable—unlocking abundant energy for industry, hydrogen, and next-generation manufacturing. We are a team of builders, engineers, and operators who believe nuclear energy should be fast to deploy, factory-made, and built for the real world. Our first pilot plant in Orangeville, Utah will demonstrate how advanced nuclear systems and fuel fabrication can power the future. Joining Valar Atomics means becoming part of a company where autonomy, ownership, and impact exist at every level.

The Team

As part of the Manufacturing organization, the Quality/Metrology team ensures precision-machined and fabricated components meet exacting engineering and dimensional standards. The team supports rapid development, prototyping, and production through advanced inspection and measurement capabilities.

The Role

Valar Atomics is looking for a CMM Operator to run coordinate measuring machine programs — using MCOSMOS with Renishaw Revo 5-axis scanning heads — to inspect precision components for our modular nuclear reactor systems. You will load and fixture parts, execute established inspection programs, and review measurement output for conformance, partnering with the CMM Programmer and Quality team on more complex issues. This is a hands-on role with a clear path to CMM programming for the right person.

Key Responsibilities

  • Load and fixture parts for CMM inspection following established setup instructions.
  • Run existing CMM inspection programs in MCOSMOS using Revo 5-axis scanning heads.
  • Review inspection output and flag deviations or non-conformances to the Quality team.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of alignment or fixturing issues; escalate program-level issues to the CMM Programmer.
  • Support calibration and routine upkeep of CMM equipment and probes.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and inspection reports.
  • Maintain accurate inspection logs and documentation per quality management procedures.
  • Support first-article inspection activities alongside Quality and Engineering.

Basic Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of experience operating a CMM or other precision inspection equipment in a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with reading engineering drawings and basic GD&T.
  • Comfortable following established inspection procedures and programs.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup manufacturing environment with evolving processes.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work in a shop-floor/metrology lab setting with appropriate PPE.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience running MCOSMOS or similar CMM software (PC-DMIS, Calypso).
  • Exposure to Renishaw Revo 5-axis or similar scanning probe heads.
  • Experience in nuclear, aerospace, or other highly regulated quality environments.
  • Interest in growing into CMM programming.

What We Offer

  • Competitive base salary
  • Equity ownership in a rapidly growing advanced energy company
  • Comprehensive medical benefits
  • Free daily lunch and dinner provided onsite
  • Generous PPE stipend
  • High-impact startup environment with significant ownership and autonomy
  • Opportunities for rapid career growth and internal advancement
  • Direct collaboration with experienced operators, engineers, and industry leaders
  • The opportunity to help build and scale transformative energy technology from the ground up
