Test Engineer
Job Description
Company Background:
Specter is creating a software-defined “control plane” for the physical world. We are starting with protecting American businesses by granting them ubiquitous perception over their physical assets.
To do so, we are creating a connected hardware-software ecosystem on top of multi-modal wireless mesh sensing technology. This allows us to drive down the cost and time of deploying sensors by 10x. Our platform will ultimately become the perception engine for a company’s physical footprint, enabling real-time perimeter visibility and autonomous operations management.
Our co-founders Xerxes and Philip are passionate about empowering our partners in the fast approaching world of physical AI and robotics. We are a small, fast growing team who hail from Anduril, Tesla, Uber, and the U.S. Special Forces.
Role + Responsibilities:
Specter is hiring a Test Engineer to design, execute, and scale hardware and system test infrastructure across our sensor and compute platforms, ensuring reliability from prototype through production and deployment.
Responsibilities include:
Own system-level and board-level validation strategy from prototype through production
Design and execute mechanical, thermal, environmental, and reliability testing
Develop automated test infrastructure, fixtures, and instrumentation for validation and production
Perform hardware bring-up, characterization, and stress testing to identify system limits
Drive failure analysis and root cause investigation across hardware and system-level issues
Define validation plans and acceptance criteria with electrical, firmware, mechanical, and manufacturing teams
Support EVT / DVT / PVT builds and validation bring-up during NPI
Analyze test results and investigate field failures to improve system reliability
Qualifications:
2+ years of hardware validation, reliability, or systems test engineering experience for embedded hardware products
Strong experience developing and executing board-level and system-level validation plans
Expert in hardware bring-up and debugging using oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, and power analyzers
Experience performing mechanical, thermal, and environmental testing and interpreting results
Experience conducting structured root cause analysis across hardware, firmware, and system failures
Experience working cross-functionally with EE, firmware, mechanical, and manufacturing teams
Nice to have:
Experience with reliability and stress testing (thermal cycling, vibration, ingress, long-duration burn-in)
Experience developing automated validation systems or manufacturing test infrastructure
Experience building test fixtures, harnesses, or end-of-line production test systems
