Role Summary The Battery Product Excellence Team is in search of a HV Battery Engineer that is organized, hands-on, collaborative, and can use first principles to drive continuous design improvement. As a Sr. Battery Engineer based in Tustin, CA, the scope of your role will be focused on externally supplied battery packs. This opportunity will allow you to grow in the electro-mechanical space by managing supplier design quality, changes, and field performance. The ideal candidate will build upon previous design and release experience to lead continuous improvement projects, manage suppliers for change implementation and issue resolution, and communicate lessons learned back into our product development teams to prevent recurrence. Responsibilities Work together and collaborate cross-functionally with external pack suppliers, Rivian's Battery Product Development Team, Rivian Purchasing, Rivian Supplier Development, Rivian service, and Rivian vehicle general assembly. Act in a supporting role to Rivian’s HV Battery Product Development team through supplier battery pack development and launch, and then become the Rivian Design Lead when the program moves from Product Development to the Product Excellence Team for sustaining engineering activity in the series production phase. Take design lead responsibility during the sustaining engineering phase for technical coordination and management of supplier changes to ensure data based alignment and approval across the supplier and Rivian, including SW, Reliability, and Validation Provide technical support for any supplier remanufacturing processes to ensure design performance is maintained. Drive external suppliers to thoroughly analyze and resolve field service issues to improve Rivian’s vehicle production and customer experience. Qualifications 3+ years of work experience in Battery/Automotive/Aerospace/related industries with a bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline at minimum. Previous experience with product launches, production schedules, and release engineering (including CAD design, GD&T, and PLM interface). Strong communication, multitasking, and interpersonal skills, both in presentation and technical writing. Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on core engineering principles. Mechanical engineering experience required, electronics / controls experience a plus. Passion for working on products that involve the intersection of mechanical, electrical, and software engineering. Willingness to expand upon the existing knowledge base of electro-mechanical systems. Self-starter, must be willing to run to and seek out issues and related details, including travel to customer and Rivian sites when needed. Passion for testing and teardowns to find the root cause of an issue. Knowledge of battery behavior and high voltage safety. Experience with issue tracking and collaboration tools (Jira, Trello, Gitlab, Asana, Confluence, etc.). Proficiency using CAN/Ethernet tools for debugging purposes is a plus. Background with CATIA V6 (3Dx) CAD Design and Enovia is a plus. Pay Disclosure The salary range for this role is USD 121,500 - 151,900 for California based applicants. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, and organizational needs. The successful candidate may be eligible for annual performance bonus and equity awards.
