The Joint Tactical Ground Station (JTAGS) program within Northrop Grumman Defense Systems was developed and built by Northrop Grumman for the U.S. Army but has since transitioned to the USSF.  JTAGS receives and processes data directly down-linked from the Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) constellation of satellites, including Defense Support Program (DSP) and Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS) sensors, and other infrared satellite sensors.  JTAGS then disseminates near-real-time warning, alerting and cueing information on ballistic missile launches and other tactical events of interest throughout the theater using multiple communications networks.

As a Principal / Sr. Principal Systems Engineer for the JTAGS program, you will be responsible for defining and coordinating the JTAGS systems engineering strategy. This is a mid-level to senior role on the Systems Engineering integrated program team (IPT), and it primarily consists of systems engineering work at the individual contributor level. Essential Functions:

• Developing, verifying, and validating system, sub-system, and component-level requirements, including tracking of verification status and artifacts

• Participate in technical planning, verification and validation development, cost and risk considerations, and requirements analyses for integrated systems

• Tracking problem/deficiency reports and leading investigation of root cause & corrective action in response to customer priorities

• Performing model-based systems engineering (MBSE) to document system architecture and its internal and external interfaces

• Supporting development, evaluation, verification, and validation of system design changes, ranging from minor system fixes to large-scale system capability changes

Basic Qualifications:

• Principal Systems Engineer (Level 3): 5 Years of related experience with Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline (STEM); 3 Years with Masters; 1 Year with PhD
• Senior Principal Systems Engineer (Level 4): 8 Years of related experience with Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline (STEM); 6 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD
  • Active Secret security clearance
• Strong problem-solving skills and a demonstrated ability to project plan and execute
• Demonstrated independent planning, organization, and working in cross-functional teams with a customer focus
• Experience preparing high-quality technical documentation (reports, briefings, plans, procedures, and diagrams)
  • Has experience using IBM DOORS/Cameo for requirements management, including use of baselines to capture changes over time
  • Has experience deriving, decomposing, and/or developing technical requirements
• Perform requirements decomposition based off technical documents, drawings, and specifications
• Experience working through the Systems Engineering lifecycle process for system development

Preferred Qualifications:

• Proficient with MATLAB, including experience performing TPM model modifications and related technical analyses (or comparable model development and integration work)
• Foundational experience working in Linux environments, including basic command-line and system navigation skills
• Perform Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability (RAM) analysis for complex systems, including developing reliability block diagrams, conducting FMEAs/FMECAs, modeling system availability, and recommending design changes to meet RAM requirements and contractual performance targets
• Experience in program-level risk and opportunity management, including identifying, tracking, and mitigating risks/opportunities on the TRIO program
  • Experience with satellite communications ground system(s) and/or missile warning system(s)
• Experience with developing architectural diagrams
  • Experience with Cameo Systems Modeler (or similar tools) and DoDAF for MBSE
  • Working knowledge and/or experience with Atlassian Jira and/or Confluence

Primary Level Salary Range: $103,600.00 - $155,400.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $129,300.00 - $193,900.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
