Medtronic Electrophysiology Therapies (EPT) is looking for a Sr. Human Factors Engineer to join our Cardiac Ablation Solutions Experience Design and Human Factors team, supporting the design and development of cutting-edge technology in the electrophysiology field.

As part of the Cardiac Ablation Solutions
Experience Design and Human Factors
team, you will work with a team of product
managers
, clinical speciali
sts, engineers, and designers, guiding the design of our products, and shaping what amazing experiences look and feel like from a user perspective.
In
this
role,
you will apply knowledge of human performance (perceptual,
cognitive
and motor skills) and human
factors techniques to
identify
user needs,
understand use-related risks,
develop requirements,
evaluate
design
solutions, and
validate
that our products are safe and effective.
Activities will
include:
field research to
identify
user needs and workflows; task analysis; software and
hardware user interface design; conducting usability evaluations; data analysis;
communicate
research outcomes to key
stakeholders; risk assessment/mitigation; and completing all internal and external documentation.

You can effectively manage multiple workstreams simultaneously, applying human factors engineering methods across a wide range of activities, from planning and conducting generative and evaluative research, to providing ergonomic and usability guidance to product development teams, to assessing the effectiveness of risk mitigations and design controls.
About the Affera Mapping and Ablation System
The Affera Mapping and Ablation System is an innovative medical technology designed to treat patients with cardiac arrhythmias. The system involves advanced mapping techniques to create detailed images of the heart's electrical activity, helping physicians
identify
abnormal areas causing arrhythmias. Once
identified
, the Affera Ablation System delivers targeted energy to disrupt these abnormal signals, restoring normal heart rhythm
.
Primary Responsibilities:
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned
:
Product lifecycle support
including
customer needs identification, user profiles, task analysis, user interface design, usability testing,
use-related
risks
analysis, design validation, and post-launch outcomes analysis
.
Conduct field studies/literature reviews/research and apply the outcomes to
requirements
definition, concept
development, and detailed design.
Work closely with marketing, product planning, engineering, manufacturing, quality assurance, technical communications, and regulatory to produce design solutions that meet user needs and consider business needs and manufacturing
constraints.
Interfaces with
designers and
engineers to
establish
system design, operating, and training requirements and to ensure optimized human-machine interfaces.
Identifies
and analyzes technological problems or risks, performs human factors investigations, and develops and implements research and analysis plans.
Contribute to the development of physical mock-ups or software prototypes of design concepts.
Develops and implements research
methods
and statistical analysis plans to test and evaluate developmental prototypes used in all phases of
products
development and processes.
Designs and executes tests to simulate product use for the purposes of concept selection/refinement, requirements development, use-related risk
identification
and formal usability validation with intended users.
Applies human performance principles, methodologies, and technologies to the design of
products
.

resent design recommendations to the product development team.
Lead

Human Factors and User Experience activities and small teams to
optimize
the
user
experience
of
products.
Able to travel globally to support project needs as

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2
years
relevant experience

Specialized Knowledge or Skills Required
Advanced knowledge in human physical and psychological capabilities and limitations, and methods used to study them

Experience planning and conducting human
subjects
research studies, analyzing data, and reporting results verbally and
in writing
.
Experience with medical device design and deep understanding of FDA and IEC guidelines
.
Preferred
Q
ualifications

Knowledge of the
application
various human factors/usability engineering principles and tools in the design, development, and evaluation of hardware and software products brought to market.
Degree concentration in Human Factors Engineering, HCI, Cognitive Psychology, Interactive
Design
or related field

Experience collaborating with a
product
team

on the development of a combined software/hardware product
.
Demonstrable experience in
helping to shape
innovative solutions using techniques such as design thinking, human centered design, service design, UX/UI design, systems thinking, analytical thinking, and storytelling
.
Proven ability to deliver value in a complex and changing environment. Able to influence and build strong credibility with diverse and challenging stakeholder
group

Excellent communication skills.
Highly reliable
to meet tight project deadlines while juggling many competing priorities

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$126,400.00 - $189,600.00
This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location.
