Job Responsibilities:
- B.S. Degree in Engineering discipline or applicable experience.
- Minimum 5 years in automotive industry.
- Excellent analytical and mathematical skills.
- Good drafting and organization skills.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills both verbal and written.
- Solid Knowledge of production equipment.
- Good Knowledge of GD&T.
- Good knowledge of 3D CAD Design.
- Able to be flexible in hours of work in order to meet internal/external customer requirements (scheduled and non-scheduled overtime shifts, etc.)
- Must be able to work in a strictly confidential matter.
- Lead / Participation in the evaluation, implementation, and continuous optimization of Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) solutions to improve material flow, warehouse operations, productivity, safety, and overall supply chain performance.
- Knowledge of TS16949/QS9000, ISO-14001, WHMIS, APQP procedures, Quality Engineering, Supplier Management, Blueprint Reading, Advanced Measuring Techniques, and Microsoft Office programs.
- Knowledge of GD&T, QFD, Design for Manufacturing, VE/VA, DOE, DFMEA/PFMEA, Floor Plans, Process Flow Diagrams, Control Plans, and Quoting Procedures.
- Working knowledge of AUTOCAD / MS Project / Catia.
- Able to work effectively within a team environment.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works independently within Supervisory guidelines or outside the plant without Supervision.
- Supports the plant by recommending productivity and systems improvements.
- Supports Manager and Supervisor in program establishment and follows-up all program stages (timing, concept, feasibility, design, construction, try-out, launch, final buy-off, prototype programs, engineering changes, and program packaging requirements including unit load manuals).
- Prepares reports, charts, and other documentation required for MPL records and projects.
- Must be able to apply standard industrial engineering practices.
- Must be capable of assisting in handling projects from inception to completion under the direction of Materials Manager.
- Assists conducting method analysis and improvements to workstation design including recommendations to replace equipment.
- Work measurement techniques and applications.
- Application of layout disciplines.
- Works with production departments and customers to design solutions to improve production planning and product styling.
- Aids in design of racks and containers.
- Recommends changes to simplify procedures and reduce process time.
- Maintains proper filing systems to ensure all information is properly stored and easily retrieved.
- On budget launch of projects.
- Overall project performance with respect to OEE, quoted manpower, quoted cycle times and scrap.
- Reporting to Management any perceived deficiencies in a program launch before failure to achieve a target is realized.
- Maintain Plant Layout.
- Maintain PFEP files.
- Update standard work and visual factory for Materials.
- Facilitate Kaizen events for Materials.
- Process mapping, value stream mapping, identifying inefficiencies with a particular focus on layouts.
- Maintain ladder charts for Shipping and Receiving and improve dock schedule.
- Complies with relevant Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental programs (e.g. ISO 9001/IATF 16949, ISO 45001 ISO 14001).
- Complies and encourages the Health and Safety programs in accordance with OSHA.
- Follows and ensures Company procedures regarding safety rules and regulations are followed.
- Complies with, supports and models CBAM’s operational procedures/policies, Employee Handbook, and Magna’s Employee’s Charter, Corporate Constitution, and Operational Principles.
Additional - DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Standard Work Development
- Develop, document, and maintain standard work for all assigned processes.
- Define optimal work sequences, takt time, and standard work‑in‑process (SWIP).
- Create visual work instructions and ensure they are accessible at the point of use.
- Audit adherence to standard work and identify improvement opportunities.
- Support operator training and certification to the defined standard.
- Knowledge of ergonomic assessment tools and safety standards.
Long‑Cycle Work Analysis
- Break down long‑cycle or complex operations into measurable job elements.
- Conduct time studies to establish accurate cycle times and identify variation.
- Balance workloads across operators, stations, or shifts using long‑cycle data.
- Identify ergonomic risks, inefficiencies, and bottlenecks within extended tasks.
- Update long‑cycle documentation following process or equipment changes.
Job Element Sheet (JES) Creation
- Develop JES documents that clearly define each job element, key points, and reasons why.
- Validate JES content with operators, team leaders, and quality/safety stakeholders.
- Maintain version control and ensure JES updates follow structured change management.
- Integrate JES into training, onboarding, and process audits.
- Ensure JES aligns with safety, quality, and engineering requirements.
Material Movement & Conveyance Optimization
- Map and analyze current material flow, conveyance routes, and material presentation methods in use either manually or via Autonomous Mobile Robots.
- Design efficient routes for forklifts, tuggers, ARM’s, or manual transport.
- Define pickup/drop‑off points, container standards, and replenishment frequencies.
- Calculate route cycle times and equipment/manpower requirements.
- Reduce congestion, travel distance, and WIP through improved material flow.
- Ensure conveyance systems support takt time and prevent line starvation or overfeeding.
Continuous Improvement & Lean Support
- Lead or participate in kaizen events, root‑cause analysis, and waste‑reduction initiatives.
- Apply lean tools such as 5S, SMED, value stream mapping, and standardization.
- Support layout changes, equipment justification, and process optimization.
- Use data to drive decisions and quantify improvement impacts.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with production, logistics, quality, safety, and maintenance teams.
- Support new product introductions by developing standard work and JES for new processes.
- Communicating engineering changes clearly and effectively across teams.
- Provide on‑the‑floor support to troubleshoot process and material flow issues.
