Role Overview:

The Mechanical Engineer I supports automation projects through machine design, CAD modeling, and engineering documentation. This entry-level role works closely with senior engineers to develop custom automation solutions, contribute to project success, and build technical skills in a collaborative environment. Ideal candidates have a Mechanical Engineering degree and 1-3 years of experience or relevant internship/co-op experience.

How You’ll Make an Impact:

  • Support the design and development of custom automation equipment and mechanical systems based on customer and project requirements.
  • Create and modify CAD models, assemblies, and drawings under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Perform basic engineering calculations and analyses to support design decisions.
  • Assist with prototype development, testing, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Document design changes, test results, and project updates to support project execution.
  • Work with internal teams to ensure designs meet performance, quality, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Support the selection and specification of purchased components by researching options and coordinating with vendors.
  • Apply standard engineering principles, procedures, and design practices to assigned tasks.
  • Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback from senior engineers and project teams.
  • Assist with machine commissioning, validation, and problem-solving activities as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with engineers, technicians, manufacturing personnel, and other project stakeholders.
  • Develop technical knowledge and engineering skills through hands-on project experience, training, and mentorship.
  • Contribute to project and team objectives while working in a collaborative environment.
  • Travel up to 20% as required to support project and customer needs.

What You’ll Bring:

  • 1-3 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer
  • Experienced with CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks, Creo, NX, AutoCAD) 
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline
  • Associates degree (2-year) with experience from accredited program (ABET/EAC)
  • Has a primarily academic knowledge of a subset of the engineering discipline principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Current or prior JR Automation experience, or experience in the automation industry is strongly preferred.
