Wireless System Engineer, Bluetooth

The Connectivity System team is responsible for defining and executing technology roadmaps, as well as investigating emerging features and use cases. We integrate new technologies into Google hardware, optimizing end-to-end performance and power efficiency. Our primary objective is to deliver connectivity across Google products such as smartphones and wearables to enhance the daily experiences of users worldwide.

As a Wireless System Engineer for Bluetooth, you will participate in the full hardware development life cycle for Pixel products, contributing to key architectural and design decisions. The role involves acting as the primary technical contact for specific Bluetooth feature sets, taking ownership of end-to-end system performance and user experience throughout the product's pre- and post-launch phases. Additionally, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize performance across Pixel devices and drive the implementation of emerging Bluetooth technologies to shape the next-generation wireless ecosystem.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $132000 - $189000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  
• 2 years of experience working in a wireless technical environment, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
• Experience with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, UWB, or Cellular technology and protocol.

Preferred qualifications:

• Master's or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
• Experienced in wireless communication, covering link budget analysis, KPI definition, and performance optimization.
• Proficient with RF test setups and lab equipment, including spectrum analyzers.
• Knowledgeable in RF and antenna subsystems with a focus on system-level tradeoffs.
• Skilled in programming and scripting languages, including Python, Shell, C/C++, and Java.
• Collaboration skills with a self-driven approach to improving cross-functional end-to-end product performance.

• Architect and deploy Bluetooth subsystems for Pixel phones and wearables.
• Define and maintain system performance KPIs using link budget calculations and field analysis.
• Lead performance optimization to ensure alignment with target Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
• Develop automated testing and regression frameworks to evaluate and improve system reliability.
• Conduct real-world field testing, partner with engineering teams to resolve regressions, and integrate next-generation Bluetooth standards while utilizing AI tools for increased productivity.
