Summary of Role:
As a Senior Member of Technical Staff, this role contributes to development and integration of photonic quantum technologies spanning waveguides, modulators, resonators, quantum emitters, detectors, advanced materials, and photonic integrated circuits. The position emphasizes hands-on process development, experimental execution, device characterization, and cross-functional collaboration.
Essential Responsibilities
- Support integration of photonic quantum hardware including waveguides, modulators, interferometers, resonators, couplers, and optical routing structures.
- Develop process modules involving thin-film deposition, lithography, etch, dielectric integration, and advanced materials.
- Perform optical, electrical, and physical characterization of photonic devices and integrated circuits.
- Execute design of experiments (DOE) activities and analyze process, yield, and performance data.
- Collaborate with process, device, packaging, metrology, and design teams to improve device performance and manufacturability.
- Translate photonic-qubit and system requirements into manufacturable process flows and design rules.
- Support R&D-to-manufacturing transitions and technology transfer activities.
- Document integration results, root-cause analyses, and technical learnings.
Other Responsibilities:
Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs.
Required Qualifications
- BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Physics, Materials Science, or related field.
- 8+ years of experience in photonics, semiconductor process integration, nanofabrication, or quantum hardware development.
- Experience with photonic integrated circuits and optical device fabrication.
- Experience with optical characterization techniques and photonic testing.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and data analysis skills.
- Experience using simulation and modeling tools such as Lumerical, COMSOL, Python, MATLAB, HFSS, or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with silicon photonics, silicon nitride photonics, lithium niobate, or electro-optic materials.
- Experience with quantum photonics, quantum emitters, single-photon devices, or quantum optics.
- Familiarity with photonic packaging, heterogeneous integration, or wafer bonding.
- Experience with cleanroom processing and semiconductor manufacturing environments.
- Publications or demonstrated contributions in photonic-device R&D.
Expected Salary Range
$118,000.00 - $210,000.00
