Job Description Summary

Systems engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline centered on an approach, mindset, and process. All activities that consider both the business and the technical needs of the customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the users needs.

The discipline that executes a robust process of design, creation, and optimization of systems, consisting of identification and quantification of system requirements, creation of alternate system design concepts, performance of design trade studies, selection and implementation of the best designs and verification that the design is properly integrated and executed. Process that proceeds from concept to production to operation.

Impacts approaches, projects and programs in the functional area or affected business organization and ways of working. Impacts quality, efficiency and effectiveness of own team. Has significant input into priorities. Guided by professional practices and policies that are shaped by the role. The role has moderate autonomy, requiring high levels of operational judgment.

Location: Grand Rapids, MI

This position, which offers a blend of onsite and hybrid work arrangements, is based in Grand Rapids, MI and necessitates a presence in the office for 2-3 days each week. An extensive corporate relocation package is also available for eligible candidates.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Conducts component and product integration. All activities that span multiple components and products and are concerned with how to integrate for maximum performance and operability.

  • Manages product and systems requirements, specifications and flow down.

  • Drives validation and verification activities for the overall product/system, including system level testing. Responsible for defining product requirements for the module / component / subcontractors and partners teams.

  • Manages interface between components and execution organizations.

  • Responsible for driving CTQ / Risk trades within the teams designing the components.

  • Manages the overall product configuration and configuration control system.

  • Developing specialized knowledge in their discipline.

  • Serves as best practice/quality resource.

  • Has awareness of latest technical developments in own area.

  • Contributes towards strategy and policy development, and ensure delivery within area of responsibility.

  • Has in-depth knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; has working knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market

  • Uses judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering.

  • Takes new perspective on existing solutions.

  • Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations.

  • Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.

  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.

  • May lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements.

  • Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus.

  • Developing persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.

  • Responsible for developing work instructions and training materials for the Systems team, as well as training the team on project-specific tools and work instructions.

  • Responsible for requirements development within the Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System (DOORS) tool.

  • Utilize FLIGHT DECK Daily Visual Management, including SQDIP boards, to make Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost performance visible for the Systems team.

  • Lead application of FLIGHT DECK problem-solving tools (At Point Problem Solving, Problem Solving Reports, etc.) to resolve systems issues and prevent recurrence.

  • Develop, document, and maintain systems Standard Work (e.g., design reviews, integration checkpoints, anomaly management) to stabilize performance and enable continuous improvement.

  • Prepare monthly forecasts for the Systems Team’s remaining work to include Estimate to Complete (ETC), percent complete, etc.

  • Prepare and submit Supplier Data Requirements Lists (SDRLs) as required by the customer.

  • Prepare estimates for additional scopes of work requested by the customer in support of preparing Baseline Change Requests (BCR).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 6 years of experience in Aerospace, Avionics, Flight Management Systems.

  • This position is specifically for the Grand Rapids location.

  • The ideal candidate will be within a reasonable commuting distance of Grand Rapids office and able to work in the System Integration Lab as project needs require.

  • Prior Flight Management System experience.

  • Prior System Integration Lab experience.

  • This position requires U.S. citizenship status.

The starting base pay range for this position is $95,000.00 - $159,000.00 USD Annually. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of your base salary/ commission based on the plan. This posting is expected to close on 9/30/26.​
