Job Summary
To support our extraordinary teams who build great products and contribute to our growth, we’re looking to add a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer located in Columbia, SC.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager - Product Support the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will work closely with sales, project managers, procurement, production, quality assurance and other engineers, and analyze feedback from customers to produce or modify product designs.
What a typical day looks like:
Review and approve 3D models and 2D drawings for enclosures and bus structures.
Review mechanical design documentation and enforce standards.
Support production builds and resolve fit/assembly issues quickly.
Maintain revision control of designs and ensure proper versioning.
Assist with early design requests and collaborate with Sales and Project Management.
Lead root-cause analysis for ECRs and RMAs and implement corrective actions.
Identify automation opportunities for repetitive tasks.
Mentor engineers and develop internal design capability.
Champion process improvements.
The experience we’re looking to add to our team,
Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering (or related) with 10+ years of experience.
Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and assembly documentation.
Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar CAD tools and Microsoft Office.
Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in electromechanical product design (industrial cabinets, switchboards, or similar).
Familiarity with UL standards (UL 891, UL 1558, UL 67, UL 857, UL 1008).
Experience with iLogic-driven templates or BOM governance.
Experience with VAVE initiatives (cost reduction, manufacturability improvements).
Familiarity with design standardization (templates, reusable rules).
Experience with PDM tools such as Vault or equivalent.
Exposure to process automation or toolchain optimization (CAD-to-BOM workflows, ERP/PLM).
Ability to analyze recurring issues and propose data-driven improvements.
