The Production Technician is responsible for supporting production operations by coordinating work orders, expediting material shortages, tracking production status, and ensuring manufacturing activities remain on schedule. This role works cross-functionally with engineering, supply chain, quality, and production teams to proactively resolve issues that could impact delivery of aerospace components and systems. Success requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-accountability aerospace manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Production Coordination

  • Monitor production schedules and prioritize work based on customer and program needs.
  • Ensure manufacturing work orders are released and completed according to schedule.
  • Coordinate movement of hardware between production cells.
  • Track production progress and communicate schedule risks.
  • Identify material shortages and coordinate with Supply Chain to expedite deliveries.
  • Follow up on open purchase orders and internal manufacturing requests.
  • Expedite engineering dispositions, quality inspections, and manufacturing approvals.
  • Escalate production constraints that threaten delivery schedules.

Manufacturing Support

  • Support technicians with obtaining tooling, materials, and documentation.
  • Verify work instructions and manufacturing travelers are available before production begins.
  • Coordinate hardware movement between machining, assembly, test, inspection, and shipping.
  • Assist with inventory reconciliation and material transactions within the ERP/MRP system.

Cross-Functional Communication

  • Serve as the primary liaison between:
    • Manufacturing
    • Production Planning
    • Supply Chain
    • Quality Assurance
    • Manufacturing Engineering
    • Program Management
  • Provide daily production status updates.
  • Participate in production readiness and scheduling meetings.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify production bottlenecks and recommend process improvements.
  • Support Lean Manufacturing and 5S initiatives.
  • Assist in reducing production cycle times.
  • Maintain accurate production metrics and reports.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree or technical certification preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in aerospace, defense, automotive, or advanced manufacturing.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Oracle, Costpoint, Epicor, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing workflows.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
