Pratt & Whitney’s Engineering Support to Operations (ESTO) organization is seeking a proactive, goal-oriented, and detail-focused Senior Design Engineer to support the design and production of compressor blades and vanes in Columbus, Georgia. This role partners with Component Integrated Product Teams (CIPT), ESTO, quality, and manufacturing engineering teams to address design requirements, engineering changes, field issues, and production improvements for commercial and military engine hardware.

What You Will Do:

  • Perform compressor blade and vane design activities within an Integrated Product Team (IPT), ensuring technical requirements and program deliverables are met.
  • Evaluate product improvement opportunities and process Class 2 engineering changes to address design, quality, and producibility requirements.
  • Conduct design analysis supporting quality nonconformances, stop-delivery orders, supplier requests, and hardware field investigations; identify root causes and recommend product improvements.
  • Support the incorporation of Airfoil 2.0 at Columbus Forge and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to reduce nonconformances and improve manufacturing producibility.
  • Prepare and present technical recommendations and program status to CIPTs, Compression Systems Module Center, ESTO leadership, and program management as required.

Travel Requirement: less than 10% | Domestic, International.

What You Will Learn:

  • Gain hands-on experience designing and supporting commercial and military engine compressor blades and vanes.
  • Develop expertise in aerospace engineering changes, product improvement, and manufacturing support.
  • Build experience with quality nonconformance investigations, root-cause analysis, and hardware field investigations.
  • Develop cross-functional experience working with design, manufacturing, quality, CIPT, and ESTO organizations.
  • Strengthen technical communication and presentation skills through engagement with engineering and program leadership.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience, or an Advanced degree with 3 years of relevant experience.  Relevant experience in engineering design, analysis, or technical problem-solving within a relevant engineering environment.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Manufacturing Engineering and direct Pratt & Whitney or aerospace industry design experience.
  • Proficiency with Teamcenter, Unigraphics/NX, ANSYS, MS Office, or other aerospace engineering design and analysis tools.
  • Knowledge of compressor blades, engineering drawings, manufacturing methods, or other jet engine rotating hardware such as disks.
  • Strong analytical, communication, interpersonal, and creative problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience with process improvement initiatives and demonstrated professional judgment, maturity, and ability to build effective working relationships.

Engineering Support to Operations (ESTO): ESTO provides dedicated support by eliminating quality notifications, escapes, works stops and enabling producibility and delivery of legacy and new parts, assemblies, modules, and engines. ESTO covers all engine programs and part families, enabling engine deliveries, first piece reviews, first article inspections, analysis automation, process certification. ESTO also supports the Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) initiative in Operations. Technical disciplines in ESTO include Project Engineering, Mechanical Design, Structural Analysis, Product Definition, and Manufacturing Engineering.

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
