We are seeking an enthusiastic Power Electronics Engineer (P1) to join our multidisciplinary engineering team supporting advanced aerospace and defense programs. The P1 engineer will assist in the design, development, analysis, test, and integration of power conversion hardware for applications including airborne platforms, space systems, radar, and next‑generation power architectures. This entry‑level role is ideal for engineers beginning their career who are eager to learn, contribute to hands-on development, and grow under guidance from experienced engineers.

What you will do:

  • Support design and development of power conversion circuits including AC/DC and DC/DC converters, motor/servo drives, filters, and power system building blocks.
  • Create and update schematics under guidance from senior engineers; assist with component selection and PCB layout reviews.
  • Perform basic simulation and analysis tasks (SPICE, LTspice) and support worst‑case or derating analysis activities.• Assist in magnetics development by preparing calculations, reviewing specifications, and coordinating build/testing with senior engineers.
  • Apply modern power devices such as SiC and GaN as directed; assist with evaluation, characterization, and test.
  • Support EMI/EMC design and test activities, including basic data collection and setup in accordance with aerospace standards.
  • Conduct hands-on lab work such as prototype bring‑up, basic debugging, data capture, and characterization of power hardware.
  • Prepare test plans, procedures, and documentation for design verification with mentorship.
  • Collaborate closely with systems, digital design, mechanical/thermal, manufacturing, and integration teams.
  • Assist with requirements tracing, document updates, and design review packages.
  • Support root-cause investigations by collecting data, performing guided tests, and documenting findings.

Qualifications you must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Internship, co-op, project team, or academic lab experience related to power electronics, circuit design, or testing.

Qualifications we prefer:

  • Exposure to aerospace/defense standards such as MIL‑STD‑704, MIL‑STD‑461, or DO‑160.
  • Basic understanding of digital control concepts (DSP/MCU-based control loops).
  • Familiarity with SiC/GaN devices and gate driver basics.
  • Exposure to thermal modeling tools or analysis methods.
  • Coursework or internship experience with magnetics design.
  • Understanding of reliability concepts, derating, and WCCA fundamentals.
  • Experience working through portions of a hardware development lifecycle (academic projects, internships).
  • Familiarity with switched‑mode power converter topologies (buck, boost, flyback, bridge, motor control).
  • Experience using simulation tools such as SPICE, LTspice, MATLAB/Simulink for academic or project work.• Hands-on experience with basic lab equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads).
  • Understanding of basic high-voltage and high-current safety practices.

What We Offer:

  • Our values drive our actions, behaviors, and performance with a vision for a safer, more connected world. At RTX we value: Safety, Trust, Respect, Accountability, Collaboration, and Innovation.
