What You Will Do

RTX is seeking an experienced Associate Director, Program Manager (M6) to lead the Fires Control portfolio, which includes a combination of domestic and international Advanced Field Artillery Tactical Data System (AFATDS) programs supporting the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, and international customers.

In this role, the Associate Director will manage and execute AFATDS programs while maintaining and strengthening relationships with domestic and international customers. The role also involves overseeing staffing, managing, and developing the Program Management team within the portfolio to ensure successful program execution.

Key responsibilities include working directly with program teams and functional partners to drive program execution, meet business objectives, and ensure successful development, deployment, and customer acceptance of solutions. The Associate Director will also personally manage select programs and customers within the portfolio.

This is an onsite position based at our Ft Wayne, IN site.

Responsibilities

  • Define program strategy, vision, and tactical plans to grow the business area and guide execution by cross-functional teams and subcontractors.
  • Ensure contractual commitments are met, including financial, technical, and schedule performance, while staying within contractual boundaries and company expectations.
  • Build effective partnerships with internal functions such as contracts, finance, procurement, manufacturing, quality, logistics, and administration to support program success.
  • Communicate program status and performance to customers, addressing their needs to ensure satisfaction and foster continued business.
  • Implement product improvements to meet evolving customer needs, maintain clear communication, and ensure organizational efficiency.
  • Lead daily program execution activities such as risk reviews, customer reviews, failure reviews, milestones, and decision reviews to meet contract objectives.
  • Align the program's Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) with overall strategies, objectives, and milestones in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Manage staffing projections and coordinate with Control Account Managers (CAMs) to meet program requirements and deadlines.
  • Organize and lead customer reviews, prepare for customer visits, and deliver required reports and data, including Monthly Status Reports, Integrated Program Management Reports, and Schedule Risk Assessments, in compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Operate independently to navigate organizational challenges, secure necessary resources, and drive initiatives forward.
  • Balance technical, cost, and schedule constraints to achieve successful program outcomes for customers.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Minimum of 12 years of management and leadership experience, with the ability to lead cross-functional project teams or oversee multiple related departments.
  • Experience with international proposal capture and development.
  • Proficiency with Program Management tools and systems, such as EVMS, RLPM, or the PMX Tools Suite (or similar tools).
  • Familiarity with financial analysis tools.
  • Working knowledge of contract formation and execution processes.
  • Experience managing portfolio risks and opportunities to meet financial goals and obligations.
  • Proven ability to balance technical, cost, and schedule constraints to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a track record of building and maintaining long-term business relationships with customers and partners.
  • Experience presenting program status and resolving issues for both internal and external customers in a clear and concise manner, with strong persuasive and influencing skills.
  • Ability to address multiple priorities effectively and make sound decisions.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret clearance and perform international travel
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business, or a related STEM/technical field, with at least 12 years of relevant program management, engineering, or defense industry experience OR a Master’s degree with 10+ years of relevant experience.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Demonstrated leadership experience, preferably in an Integrated Product Team (IPT) organizational structure or similar construct, with a proven ability to collaborate across functional boundaries.
  • Operator experience utilizing and deploying U.S. Army artillery-based weapon systems and applicable international customers.
  • Background in the Defense or Aerospace industry.
  • Experience conducting business in international markets, including navigating cultural, regulatory, and logistical considerations.
  • Familiarity with product lifecycle management, including development, deployment, sustainment, and retirement of systems or products.

The salary range for this role is 157,200 USD - 298,800 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
