Automation & Controls Technician

CelLink is scaling rapidly, and we’re looking for an Automation & Controls Technician to join our team at our new, state-of-the-art mega manufacturing facility inGeorgetown, Texas.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys troubleshooting automated equipment, figuring out why something isn't working, and getting it back up and running. You’ll work directly on the manufacturing floor alongside Automation & Controls Engineers, Maintenance, Manufacturing Engineering, Production, and equipment vendors to keep our equipment safe, reliable, and performing at its best.

You’ll work with technologies including PLCs, HMIs, sensors, servo and motion systems, machine vision, motor controls, safety systems, and industrial networks while gaining exposure to advanced manufacturing equipment as we scale our operation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical, controls, and automation issues involving PLCs, HMIs, sensors, actuators, motors, drives, servo/motion systems, machine vision, safety circuits, and industrial networks.

  • Use electrical schematics, PLC/HMI diagnostics, test equipment, and equipment documentation to quickly identify faults and restore equipment to safe operation.

  • Support equipment installation, startup, commissioning, qualification, preventive maintenance, and production ramp activities alongside Engineering and equipment vendors.

  • Investigate recurring equipment failures, participate in root-cause analysis, and implement improvements that increase uptime, OEE, cycle time, yield, and reliability.

  • Perform approved component replacements, wiring modifications, control-panel work, functional testing, and other hands-on equipment repairs.

  • Maintain accurate troubleshooting, repair, software backup, and change-management documentation while sharing knowledge and escalating complex issues appropriately.

  • Work safely and maintain a clean, organized manufacturing environment.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

Experience/Education

  • Associate degree, technical certificate, apprenticeship, military technical training, or equivalent hands-on experience in Automation, Controls, Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field.

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience supporting automated manufacturing equipment, industrial controls, electrical systems, or similar equipment.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Experience troubleshooting equipment using electrical schematics, PLC/HMI interfaces, diagnostic tools, and technical documentation.

  • Working knowledge of industrial automation and PLC-controlled manufacturing equipment.

  • Ability to troubleshoot sensors, actuators, motors, drives, relays, contactors, safety devices, and control circuits.

  • Basic understanding of PLC logic and the ability to use PLC/HMI software for diagnostics and troubleshooting.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to determine whether an issue is electrical, controls/software, equipment, or process-related.

  • Strong communication, documentation, and prioritization skills with the ability to work independently and cross-functionally

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Beckhoff, Mitsubishi, and/or Omron PLCs.

  • Experience with machine vision, servo/motion systems, industrial networks, pneumatics, temperature controls, or industrial instrumentation.

  • Experience supporting equipment installation, commissioning, qualification, or manufacturing startup.

Physical Demands – Office and Manufacturing Environment 

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands or finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee is required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms and pull/push; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds without assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment –  

Includes both a typical office environment, with minimal exposure to excessive noise or adverse environmental issues, and a shop environment, with exposure to high noise levels from operating machines, physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts, nuisance dust, and skin exposure to chemicals used to run/maintain machines

PPE-

May be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to safety glasses, safety shoes, bump-caps, gloves, hair nets, masks, & clean-room frocks while adhering to the prescribed safety procedures
