Role Overview
The Quality Technician/CMM Programmer performs advanced dimensional inspection activities and develops Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) programs to ensure manufactured components meet engineering, customer, and regulatory requirements. This role combines hands-on quality inspection with technical expertise in CMM programming, GD&T, CAD-based inspection, and advanced metrology.
The CMM Programmer / Quality Technician translates engineering drawings, CAD models, specifications, and GD&T requirements into effective and repeatable inspection methods and CMM programs. This position serves as a technical resource for CMM programming and dimensional inspection while partnering closely with Quality, Manufacturing, and Engineering to identify dimensional issues, support root cause investigations, improve inspection processes, and ensure consistent product conformity.

Do...
Develop, program, validate, maintain, and execute CMM inspection programs using PC-DMIS software
Translate engineering drawings, CAD models, specifications, and GD&T requirements into effective inspection strategies and CMM programs
Determine appropriate measurement methods, datum structures, probing strategies, fixturing, alignments, and inspection sequencing
Perform advanced dimensional and visual inspections using CMMs, manual measurement equipment, scanners, and other automated metrology technologies
Optimize CMM programs for accuracy, repeatability, efficiency, and inspection cycle time
Validate new and revised CMM programs prior to production use and update programs as engineering requirements change
Troubleshoot CMM programming, probing, fixturing, measurement, and inspection issues
Analyze CMM and inspection data to identify dimensional variation, trends, and potential manufacturing issues
Interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, GD&T requirements, and CAD models to determine product conformity
Support First Article Inspection (FAI), production inspection, in-process inspection, and final inspection activities
Develop and maintain inspection methods, inspection plans, CMM program documentation, work instructions, and standardized work
Partner with Manufacturing and Engineering to investigate dimensional nonconformances and support root cause and corrective action activities
Provide dimensional data and technical inspection support for nonconformance investigations
Support new product introduction, process development, engineering changes, and production ramp-up activities
Review engineering changes and determine impacts to existing CMM programs, inspection methods, and measurement strategies
Identify opportunities to improve inspection capability, automation, equipment utilization, measurement efficiency, and overall quality performance
Create, review, and maintain Customer Data Packets, Certificates of Conformance (CoC), inspection records, calibration records, and other QMS documentation
Identify, document, and support the disposition of nonconforming material through approved quality systems
Support internal and external audits by providing inspection records, CMM program documentation, and evidence of compliance with AS9100 and company procedures
Establish and maintain best practices for CMM programming, dimensional inspection, and advanced metrology
Mentor and provide technical guidance to less experienced Quality Technicians on CMM programming, GD&T, metrology equipment, and inspection methods
Utilize Microsoft Office applications and quality systems to maintain accurate inspection and quality records
Follow all Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) policies, procedures, PPE requirements, and hazard reporting expectations
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe inspection work environment

You have...
Education
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience
Experience
Four (4) or more years of experience in quality inspection, dimensional inspection, metrology, or precision manufacturing
Three (3) or more years of hands-on experience programming and operating CMMs
Demonstrated hands-on experience developing, editing, validating, and maintaining CMM programs using PC-DMIS software
Experience programming CMMs using CAD models and engineering drawings, including the translation of GD&T requirements into PC-DMIS inspection programs
Experience interpreting GD&T and applying dimensional and geometric requirements to inspection programs
Experience developing inspection methods for complex, high-tolerance components
Experience working in an AS9100, ISO 9001, or similarly regulated manufacturing environment
Skills & Competencies
Advanced knowledge of CMM programming, dimensional metrology, and inspection techniques
Advanced ability to interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, GD&T, datums, tolerances, and geometric requirements
Proficiency with PC-DMIS CMM programming software, including program development, editing, debugging, validation, and optimization
Strong understanding of CMM probe qualification, probing strategies, fixturing, alignments, coordinate systems, and measurement techniques
Ability to translate engineering requirements and CAD models into efficient, accurate, and repeatable inspection programs
Ability to troubleshoot and optimize CMM programs and inspection methods
Ability to analyze CMM and inspection results and use dimensional data to identify process variation and manufacturing issues
Strong understanding of metrology equipment calibration and measurement system requirements
Ability to independently develop inspection strategies for new and existing products
Strong analytical, technical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Ability to work independently and serve as a technical resource for CMM programming and dimensional inspection
Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Nice to have...
Experience working in aerospace, additive manufacturing, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments
Experience programming CMM inspections for tight-tolerance, complex geometry, or multi-axis components
Experience with Zeiss, Hexagon, Mitutoyo, Keyence, GOM, or other advanced metrology systems
Experience with CAD software and model-based definition (MBD)
Experience with ASME Y14.5 and advanced GD&T applications
Experience with automated inspection, scanning, or optical measurement systems
Experience supporting First Article Inspection (FAI) and AS9102 requirements
Experience with Measurement System Analysis (MSA) and Gauge R&R
Experience with ERP and QMS systems for nonconformance reporting, document control, and calibration management
Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement experience
Experience establishing CMM programming standards, templates, and best practices
Demonstrated ability to mentor technicians and develop organizational capability in CMM programming and advanced metrology
Demonstrated "roll up your sleeves" approach to supporting team objectives
