Senior Supplier Quality Engineer
Introduction to the job
As a Supplier Quality Engineer within Strategic Sourcing & Procurement, you will lead supplier part industrialization in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary development environment, supporting Development & Engineering projects from early supplier involvement through readiness for volume production.
You will combine hands-on technical expertise with leadership of complex industrialization projects and supplier improvement activities. Working closely with suppliers and ASML development teams, you will translate product requirements into robust manufacturing processes, resolve capability gaps, and secure part quality and timely delivery in alignment with the ASML project plan.
Role and responsibilities
Within Strategic Sourcing & Procurement, the SQE owns industrialization status and manufacturing readiness for assigned parts. You will independently lead complex supplier quality and industrialization activities, challenge supplier readiness, and drive decisions with Engineering, Supplier Account Teams (SAT), and Quality Supplier Managers (QSM). You will remain directly involved in technical assessments and problem solving while guiding stakeholders toward agreed project outcomes.
The main responsibilities are:
Lead SQE activities and deliverables within assigned projects, coordinating contributions from other SQEs and cross-functional stakeholders. Establish priorities, milestones, and action owners, and drive timely closure of issues affecting NPI deliverables.
Lead supplier part industrialization through new product introduction (NPI) and ramp-up. Assess supplier NPI readiness with the SAT and contribute technical and manufacturing input to supplier selection.
Drive early supplier involvement in development projects. Incorporate supplier manufacturing and prototype feedback into design decisions to address manufacturability risks before qualification and volume release.
Define and align the part Statement of Work (SoW) with Engineering, the SAT, and suppliers, covering development and volume manufacturing requirements, deliverables, and responsibilities.
Ensure part quality, manufacturability, and serviceability requirements are addressed during design, including critical-to-quality (CTQ) requirements, design risk assessments, and lessons learned.
Own and drive part qualification and manufacturing readiness deliverables in the ASML product generation process, including:
Supplier acceptance of specifications and designs, with clear manufacturing requirements
Complete part and process qualification plans, including risk mitigation and capability validation
Acceptance of qualified parts and documented industrialization status, with open issues resolved or assigned to agreed owners for the SQE-QSM transfer
Manufacturing process flows, process failure mode and effects analysis (PFMEA), CTQs, and control plans
First article inspection, test coverage, measurement system analysis, and process capability evidence
Drive resolution of NPI manufacturing and quality issues, including deviation approvals, containment, root cause analysis, and corrective and preventive actions. Maintain configuration and change management interfaces, monitor part quality disturbances with QSM, and verify that actions prevent recurrence.
Assess supplier manufacturing processes and identify capability gaps affecting quality, technology, delivery, or cost. Drive part-related improvement plans with suppliers and SAT stakeholders, coach suppliers on process control and quality maturity, and escalate unresolved risks with clear recommendations.
The SQE is part of cross-functional development project teams and interfaces with project leaders, design engineers, architects, manufacturing and customer support engineers, logistics, procurement, and suppliers.
Education and experience
Bachelor or Master’s degree in industrial engineering, optics, mechatronics, electronics or related field.
Might need to change due to JG9 move: Minimum 10 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree or 7 years with a Master's degree, including demonstrated ownership of complex technical or supplier industrialization activities.
Demonstrated hands-on leadership experience in at least one of the following: technical project management, supplier management, or people management. Candidates must show how they set direction, coordinated work, resolved technical or stakeholder issues, and delivered measurable outcomes while remaining directly involved in execution.
Experience in high-tech industry and complex modules, with a focus on industrial engineering, supplier quality, manufacturing engineering, or technical project management. Experience applying quality systems and methods and developing production processes is required. Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification is preferred.
Experience with multiple NPI projects, including completion of at least one full product development cycle, and direct technical interaction with suppliers in an industrial environment.
Industry experience in either coating technologies (e.g. ALD coatings), 3D printing (3DP), mechatronics, or similar technical field
Skills
The ideal candidate demonstrates a combination of technical, manufacturing, and supplier quality competencies, including:
Strong understanding of New Product Introduction (NPI), product industrialization, and Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP).
Proficiency in Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA/PFMEA), Control Plans, and process flow development.
Experience with First Article Inspection (FAI), Measurement System Analysis (MSA), Statistical Process Control (SPC), and capability analysis (Cp/Cpk).
Working knowledge of root cause analysis and structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, A3, DMAIC, 5-Why, and Ishikawa.
Ability to assess manufacturing processes and process capability across precision machining, sheet metal fabrication, optics, coatings, mechatronics, electronics, or assembly technologies.
Experience with supplier visits, process assessments, and driving corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Understanding of configuration management, engineering change control, and product lifecycle management processes.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, technical specifications, and critical-to-quality (CTQ) requirements.
Ability to identify, assess, and reduce manufacturing and quality risks, and independently drive qualification planning for complex components and assemblies.
Experience analyzing technical data using statistical methods and quality tools to drive process improvements.
Experience with Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), and qualification methodologies.
Familiarity with semiconductor, optics, precision mechanics, mechatronics, or other complex high-tech products is a strong plus.
The following personal skills are also crucial for a successful execution:
Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects, supplier improvement activities, or teams and drive results without formal authority.
Strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills, including alignment of Engineering, suppliers, and SAT stakeholders on priorities and action ownership.
Clear communication of technical risks, project status, and recommendations to engineering teams, supplier management, and ASML leadership.
Ability to translate complex technical data into clear decisions, challenge readiness assumptions, and escalate risks at the right time.
Independent judgment, initiative, and accountability for agreed deliverables.
Flexible, result driven and committed.
Collaborative leader who coaches colleagues and suppliers and builds trust across functions.
Process oriented.
Fluent in English.
