Responsibilities
- Define requirements for interior subsystems based on habitat architecture and crew use.
- Select and validate materials considering various factors like off-gassing and flame resistance.
- Create and iterate designs through sketching, CAD, prototyping, and lab testing.
- Collaborate with engineering teams for integration of components.
- Develop test plans and oversee testing for mechanical loads and environmental exposure.
- Work with suppliers to translate designs into manufacturable products.
- Document design decisions and maintain material trackers.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 2+ years of experience with CAD and FEA software.
- Strong problem-solving skills and hands-on experience.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Comfort with ambiguity and tight schedules.
- 3-5 years of experience with soft goods, preferably in aerospace.
- Knowledge of soft good manufacturing processes and environmental qualification.
