Mechanisms/ Payload Internship - Summer 2026

The Mechanisms/Payload Internship at Varda involves working on the design, building, testing, and operation of in-space manufacturing and reentry testbed payloads. Interns will engage with various technical disciplines and contribute to impactful projects critical to the company's success.

• Own or contribute to hardware or software design for spacecraft or payload.
• Create or support test campaigns and build test stands.
• Perform necessary analysis to support development and testing.
• Collaborate with a cross-functional team.
• Leverage programming, mechatronics, structures, fabrication, and testing skills.
• Learn from experienced aerospace professionals.
• Contribute to impactful projects critical to the company’s success.

• Experience with mechanical CAD (NX preferred).
• Experience designing, building, and/or operating electromechanical hardware (motors, sensors, etc.).
• Basic programming skills in at least one language (Python preferred).
• Comfort using common hand tools and interest in learning machine tools.
• Pursuing a bachelor's or master’s degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
• Previous internship or co-op experience preferred.
• Experience on technical project teams (e.g., Rocket club, Formula SAE) preferred.
