Mechatronics Engineer
Job Description
About Springcraft
Today, building robots and intelligent machines means navigating fragmented tools, incompatible hardware, and closed ecosystems. It takes too long, costs too much, and locks builders in. There is no default platform for physical AI. We're building it.
Springcraft brings together purpose-built hardware, developer tools, and AI models into one open, integrated system so that builders can create machines that sense, understand, and act in the real world.
Founded by the team behind 8th Wall, the largest AR platform for the web (acquired by Niantic), we bring deep experience in spatial computing. Backed by Night Capital, Eric Semler of TCS Capital, Village Global, and exceptional angels, we're based in Palo Alto and hiring our core team now.
The Role
As a Hardware Engineer (Mechatronics), you are the bridge between hardware and software at Springcraft. You will own embedded control systems, sensor integration, and the firmware that brings our platform to life, starting with motion control and delivering production-ready firmware for our first hardware product.
This is a foundational hire. You'll define how our hardware thinks, moves, and responds.
Springcraft is built on open hardware and open standards. Your firmware and control systems will be used by developers, researchers, and builders around the world.
Responsibilities
- Own the motion control algorithm stack for actuator and motor systems, expanding into new control systems as the platform grows
- Write and maintain firmware for embedded control systems (C/C++, Rust, bare-metal, or RTOS)
- Integrate sensors into real-time control loops
- Define and implement communication protocols in collaboration with the Electrical Engineer
- Define and implement hardware-software interfaces
- Collaborate with the Electrical and Mechanical Engineers on system integration
- Collaborate with the Software and AI Engineers to integrate firmware capabilities into the broader platform
- Co-own hardware bring-up, debugging, and validation with the Electrical Engineer
Job Requirements
- 2+ years of professional or academic experience in mechatronics, robotics engineering, or embedded systems
- Strong firmware development skills (C/C++, Rust, bare-metal, or RTOS)
- Practical experience with embedded control systems, including motor control and real-time feedback loops
- Experience with sensor integration and real-time control loops
- Ability to read schematics and collaborate directly with Electrical Engineers
- Authorized to work in the United States, we are unable to sponsor work visas at this time
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with common embedded communication protocols
- Experience writing production-quality firmware
- Experience shipping robotics products commercially
Location
Palo Alto, CA (In-Person)
Compensation
- Competitive salary ($120,000–$180,000) + meaningful early-stage equity
