Mechanical Engineer (Starshield)

The Mechanical Engineer (Starshield) role at SpaceX involves owning the design and development of complex mechanisms and mechanical systems for satellites, particularly those supporting national security efforts.

• Own hardware and mechanisms from conceptual design through volume production and on-orbit operations.
• Develop design criteria and collaborate on requirements for system-level optimization.
• Rapidly iterate on designs to inform high-level systems trades and steer product direction.
• Drive design for manufacturing (DFM) to create efficient designs with reduced complexity.
• Establish an efficient product lifecycle from supply chain through final integration.
• Perform environmental and performance testing on hardware to validate design compliance.
• Manage product delivery timelines through all stages of development and production.

• Bachelor's degree in an engineering or STEM discipline.
• Experience with CAD or FEA software packages.
• 1+ years of experience in mechanical and/or electromechanical design and analysis.
• Solid understanding and application of GD&T.
• Demonstrated ability to own hardware or systems in an integrated engineering team setting.
• Understanding of structural analysis and failure modes of complex mechanical systems.
• Self-motivated with strong organizational and communication skills.
