The Launch Engineer, Mechanical at SpaceX is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining mechanical systems that support rocket launches and testing. This role involves hands-on work in a fast-paced environment, requiring both technical skills and the ability to adapt to changing challenges.
Responsibilities
- Analyze, design, and build systems for critical rocket launches and testing.
- Manage projects from design reviews to equipment procurement and construction.
- Design modular hardware for future launch sites.
- Apply interdisciplinary engineering skills for system design and optimization.
- Utilize FEM software and hand calculations for design and issue resolution.
- Collaborate with vehicle engineers and technicians to develop and troubleshoot systems.
- Maintain feedback loops with launch operations to adapt plans as needed.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
- 1+ years of experience in designing or troubleshooting mechanical systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills in high-pressure situations.
- Hands-on experience with machining, welding, and fabrication techniques.
- Familiarity with high-pressure and cryogenic fluid systems.
- Intermediate CAD skills; experience with FEA or CFD is a plus.
- Ability to work in extreme outdoor environments and perform physical tasks related to the job.
