The Launch Engineer, Mechanical at SpaceX is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining mechanical systems that support rocket launches and testing. Responsibilities

  • Analyze, design, and build systems for critical rocket launches and testing.
  • Manage projects from design reviews to equipment procurement and construction.
  • Design modular hardware for future launch sites.
  • Apply interdisciplinary engineering skills for system design and optimization.
  • Utilize FEM software and hand calculations for design and issue resolution.
  • Collaborate with vehicle engineers and technicians to develop and troubleshoot systems.
  • Maintain feedback loops with launch operations to adapt plans as needed.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
  • 1+ years of experience in designing or troubleshooting mechanical systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills in high-pressure situations.
  • Hands-on experience with machining, welding, and fabrication techniques.
  • Familiarity with high-pressure and cryogenic fluid systems.
  • Intermediate CAD skills; experience with FEA or CFD is a plus.
  • Ability to work in extreme outdoor environments and perform physical tasks related to the job.
