Responsibilities
- Own the mechanical design for payload subsystem components across Planet’s satellite fleet.
- Drive documentation and presentation of new designs throughout design phases and reviews.
- Collaborate with structural and thermal analysis teams to perform analyses on key optical performance metrics.
- Drive part/assembly tolerancing using GD&T and release drawing packages for part fabrication.
- Perform design and analysis to ensure component lifecycle survival.
- Collaborate with optical engineers and instrument assembly teams for DFM and DFA features.
- Support test planning and qualification campaigns, including debugging on-orbit anomalies.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 4+ years of experience in product ownership from requirements to manufacturing.
- Proficiency in CAD software and Product Lifecycle Management software.
- Experience with design and fabrication of composites or metal components.
- Hands-on experience with dynamic hardware builds and testing.
- Outstanding verbal and visual communication skills.
- Experience designing opto-mechanical components and a good understanding of manufacturing methods.
