Responsibilities
- Design mechanical prototypes for optical and sensing concepts.
- Create camera, sensor, and perception experiments.
- Conduct ergonomics and human-factors studies.
- Build prototype-only mechanical structures like optical mounts and adjustable frames.
- Perform rapid design iterations based on experimental results.
- Fabricate and modify prototype parts using rapid prototyping methods.
- Utilize 3D printing, CNC machining, and laser cutting techniques.
Job Requirements
- Currently pursuing a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Commitment to work for 12 weeks during Summer 2026.
- Strong understanding of mechanical fundamentals (statics, materials, tolerances).
- Experience with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo, NX, Fusion 360).
- Comfortable working with physical hardware and prototype builds.
- Ability to learn quickly in an iterative environment.
- Preferred experience with consumer electronics or wearable devices.
