Responsibilities

  • Develop a systems approach to rider comfort, focusing on motion control issues.
  • Research prior art in comfort among industry, academia, and within Waymo.
  • Develop metrics to measure comfort and analyze data from Waymo’s vehicle fleet.
  • Draft requirements to formalize testable performance expectations.
  • Consult with test engineers to establish verification and validation methods.
  • Propose driving behavior changes and collaborate with software engineers on proof of concept.
  • Run simulations or in-vehicle evaluations to measure improvements or regressions.

Job Requirements

  • Proficiency in Python or other scripting languages (e.g., R, MATLAB, JavaScript).
  • Knowledge of statistics, data science, or signal processing.
  • Understanding of Newtonian physics, biomechanics, or dynamics/mechanics.
  • Coursework in user experience (UX) or human factors/physiology.
  • Technical writing skills.
  • Familiarity with SQL or other query languages is preferred.
  • Background in automotive, aerospace, or controls engineering is a plus.
