Mechanisms/ Payload Internship - Spring 2026

This internship role involves working with the payload team at Varda, focusing on the design, building, testing, and operation of in-space manufacturing and reentry testbed payloads. Interns will leverage their skills in programming, mechatronics, structures, fabrication, and testing in a collaborative startup environment.

• Own or contribute to hardware or software design for spacecraft or payload.
• Create or support test campaigns and build test stands.
• Perform necessary analysis to support development and testing.
• Collaborate with subject matter experts across various technical disciplines.
• Engage in impactful projects critical to the company’s success.
• Utilize mechanical CAD for design tasks.
• Work on electromechanical hardware components such as motors and sensors.

• Pursuing a bachelor's or master’s degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering (or similar).
• Experience with mechanical CAD (NX preferred).
• Experience in designing, building, and/or operating electromechanical hardware.
• Basic programming skills in at least one language (Python preferred).
• Comfort using common hand tools and interest in machine tools.
• Previous internship or co-op experience (preferred).
• Experience on technical project teams (preferred).
