The Robotics Mechanical Design Engineer role focuses on designing and building humanoid bi-pedal robots (Optimus) at Tesla, requiring collaboration across multiple engineering disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Design joints and structures optimized for mass, stiffness, cost, and manufacturing.
  • Create mechanisms and transmissions for power transfer through moving joints.
  • Perform load calculations for sizing actuators, transmissions, and bearing elements.
  • Integrate actuators, sensors, and electronics into a space-efficient package.
  • Apply analytical methods for design and optimization of structures and mechanical components.
  • Conduct tolerance analysis to assess assembly fits and backlash.
  • Fabricate prototypes and manage suppliers to execute projects according to specifications.

Job Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or Mechatronics or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling software (CATIA preferred).
  • Experience drafting engineering drawings and conducting tolerance stack-up analysis (GD&T bonus).
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
