The Robotics Mechanical Design Engineer role focuses on designing and building humanoid bi-pedal robots (Optimus) at Tesla, requiring collaboration across multiple engineering disciplines.
Responsibilities
- Design joints and structures optimized for mass, stiffness, cost, and manufacturing.
- Create mechanisms and transmissions for power transfer through moving joints.
- Perform load calculations for sizing actuators, transmissions, and bearing elements.
- Integrate actuators, sensors, and electronics into a space-efficient package.
- Apply analytical methods for design and optimization of structures and mechanical components.
- Conduct tolerance analysis to assess assembly fits and backlash.
- Fabricate prototypes and manage suppliers to execute projects according to specifications.
Job Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or Mechatronics or equivalent experience.
- Proficiency in 3D modeling software (CATIA preferred).
- Experience drafting engineering drawings and conducting tolerance stack-up analysis (GD&T bonus).
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
