Mechanical Design Engineer, New Programs

The Mechanical Design Engineer for New Programs at Tesla works on the design and development of future vehicle concepts, collaborating with cross-functional teams to create and prove designs through simulation and prototyping.

• Document product plan and identify risks and key decisions.
• Own vehicle system level attributes and present tradeoffs to leadership.
• Support designers in defining manufacturing strategies and output criteria for 3D surfaces.
• Collaborate with engineers and designers to create new automotive solutions.
• Develop designs using CAD and refine them over time.
• Manage multiple priorities and meet tight delivery timelines.
• Report on design decisions and their alignment with program milestones.

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 2 years in a product development environment.
• Hands-on experience in product scope narrowing and cross-functional decision facilitation.
• Familiarity with automotive regulations and major load cases.
• Proficiency in Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
• Understanding of Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
• Capability to use 3D CAD software and knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals.
