Internship, Thermal Modeling Engineer, Abuse Functional Safety (Fall 2026)

Responsibilities

  • Geometry cleaning and meshing in STARCCM for new battery pack architectures.
  • Characterize and develop 3D abuse models for battery cells.
  • Conduct thermal modeling to assess risks of thermal runaway in battery packs.
  • Perform part design sensitivities to support safety design decisions.
  • Analyze data using MATLAB to identify trends in modeling and testing results.
  • Collaborate closely with managers and mentors on critical projects.
  • Participate in hands-on testing and experimental work related to thermal modeling and CFD.

Job Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Proficiency in STAR CCM+, ANSYS, OpenFOAM, or COMSOL.
  • Experience with CAD software (CATIA/Solidworks), MATLAB, or Python.
  • Familiarity with thermal modeling, CFD, numerical methods, and heat transfer.
  • Hands-on testing and experimental work experience.
  • Ability to work full-time on-site for a minimum of 12 weeks.
  • Willingness to participate in a structured internship program.
