Director, Mechanical Design Engineering, Tooling

The role involves leading a team of tooling engineers at Relativity Space, focusing on designing and implementing tooling solutions for rocket production, while overseeing project management and collaboration with design and manufacturing teams.

• Lead and develop a high-performing team of tooling engineers.
• Define and execute the long-term tooling strategy.
• Oversee design, fabrication, and commissioning of complex tooling systems.
• Manage the tooling project portfolio for production and development programs.
• Partner with design engineering and manufacturing teams for tooling readiness.
• Standardize best practices for design documentation and maintenance.
• Ensure compliance and reliability across all tooling assets.

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering.
• 10+ years of experience in tooling design and manufacturing engineering.
• 4+ years in a leadership role.
• Expertise with CAD and PLM systems (e.g., NX, Teamcenter, CATIA, SolidWorks).
• Experience with large-scale tooling initiatives for complex hardware.
• Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and manufacturing processes.
• Experience in aerospace, automotive, or oil & gas production environments is a plus.
