System Mechanical Design Engineer

The role of a Mechanical Engineer at Lightmatter involves transforming complex electro-optical concepts into scalable hardware, focusing on mechanical design, thermal management, and collaboration with contract manufacturers.

• Design, test, analyze, integrate, qualify, and document hardware of moderate to high complexity.
• Ensure proper packaging of optical, electrical, and related components for optimal thermal performance.
• Generate CAD designs and drawings, create BOMs, and craft work instructions.
• Manage design reviews and address feedback and change requests.
• Collaborate in root-cause analysis and technical investigations with cross-functional teams.
• Oversee in-house build and integration activities, leading to high-volume production.
• Manage outside fabricators to ensure quality workmanship and adherence to designs.

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related fields.
• 5+ years of experience in system mechanical design with successful product releases.
• Proficient in 3D CAD solid modeling software (e.g., SolidWorks).
• Familiarity with thermal and structural testing and analysis.
• Strong understanding of heat transfer principles and materials selection.
• Industry experience in electronics packaging.
• Strong communication skills and adaptability in execution.
