The Mechanical Design Engineer will work on the development of advanced spacecraft and launch vehicle components, focusing on flow and position control devices for the Starship/Super Heavy Vehicle. The role involves design, development, and characterization of components for extreme environments.

Responsibilities

  • Develop manufacturable flow control devices and mechanisms for Starship and Super Heavy systems.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, production, testing, and supply chain to enhance component build rates.
  • Create and maintain detailed drawings, specifications, and risk assessments.
  • Lead root cause investigations and implement corrective actions for failures.
  • Set standards for rigorous component design and qualification testing.
  • Aim for zero in-flight anomalies and minimize production delays.
  • Act as chief engineer, collaborating on system-level architecture and component capabilities.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in physics or an engineering discipline.
  • 1+ years of mechanical design/hands-on manufacturing experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.
  • Experience designing and analyzing mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of fluid systems and solid mechanics.
  • Leadership experience on projects or research teams.
  • Familiarity with test instrumentation and control components.
