The Mechanical Design Engineer will work on the development of advanced spacecraft and launch vehicle components, focusing on flow and position control devices for the Starship/Super Heavy Vehicle. The role involves design, development, and characterization of components for extreme environments.
Responsibilities
- Develop manufacturable flow control devices and mechanisms for Starship and Super Heavy systems.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, production, testing, and supply chain to enhance component build rates.
- Create and maintain detailed drawings, specifications, and risk assessments.
- Lead root cause investigations and implement corrective actions for failures.
- Set standards for rigorous component design and qualification testing.
- Aim for zero in-flight anomalies and minimize production delays.
- Act as chief engineer, collaborating on system-level architecture and component capabilities.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in physics or an engineering discipline.
- 1+ years of mechanical design/hands-on manufacturing experience.
- Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.
- Experience designing and analyzing mechanical systems.
- Knowledge of fluid systems and solid mechanics.
- Leadership experience on projects or research teams.
- Familiarity with test instrumentation and control components.
