The Senior Spacecraft Mechanical Engineer I/II role at Rocket Lab involves developing high-performance satellite systems and mechanisms, contributing to space vehicle design, and working with flight hardware for various missions.
Responsibilities
- Support the Business Development team with proposals and mission concepts
- Develop high-performance and lightweight satellite systems, mechanisms, and satellite bus configurations
- Define mechanisms for modern satellite systems/buses
- Own component designs from conceptual design through production, test, and operation
- Perform calculations and finite element analysis (FEA) to inform design decisions
- Lead component design, manufacturing, and test reviews
- Create and maintain product definitions through CAD and related documentation
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering or a related field
- 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience (8+ for II level)
- Experience with CAD modeling and drawing
- U.S. citizenship required due to program requirements
- Spacecraft/satellite design experience preferred
- Exceptional mechanical mechanism problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage development schedules, vendors, and project deliverables
