Durin

Lead Robotics Engineer

Job Description

Posted on:

Durin was founded under the belief that a future where humanity has access to limitless resources is fundamentally more exciting than one where we do not. Today Durin is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of becoming the bedrock of the global supply chain and enabling a more abundant future for everyone.

Who We Are

At Durin, we drill for mineral exploration companies. Despite being a $6B industry, exploration drilling technology has hardly changed in over 60 years. Our mission is to change that. The first step is retrofitting drilling rigs with automated controls and real-time data streams to increase speed, efficiency, and reliability – quickly followed by the production of our own equipment.

Automating the Rig

We are hiring a robotics engineer to lead the development of advanced autonomous control systems for our industrial drilling rigs, integrating sensors, actuators, and control algorithms. You will rapidly prototype, iterate, and collaborate closely with mechanical and software engineers, testing systems in the field daily or weekly.

Note: You don't need mining or drilling experience to excel in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop autonomous control systems for drilling rigs and other industrial machinery
  • Select and integrate sensors and actuators to directly measure and control position, velocity, force, and torque
  • Derive robust control schemes to implement reliable automatic processes under variable and challenging conditions
  • Optimize automated control of industrial processes to enhance efficiency and reliability
  • Build algorithms and systems for controlling machinery across diverse operational scenarios
  • Perform testing, troubleshooting, and validation of systems in both lab and field environments

Job Requirements

  • Experience in industrial automation, robotics, or mechatronics engineering
  • Proficiency with PLCs, SCADA systems, and related industrial automation platforms
  • Familiarity with industrial communication standards (e.g., CAN bus, Modbus) and wireless connectivity solutions
  • Strong grasp of mechatronic systems blending mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines
  • Demonstrated ability in designing control algorithms and implementing them on machinery
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as ROS, C++, Python, or similar
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment to rapidly prototype and deploy new systems
  • Experience with field testing and working in rugged environments
