Job Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Field Engineer to join our dynamic team. This is an incredible opportunity to be the first field engineer at Shinkei, getting in at the ground floor of a fast-paced robotics startup. You will play a crucial role in deploying and maintaining our cutting-edge robotic systems at fishing docks across the United States, with potential for long-term international travel. This role involves extensive hands-on work with electro-mechanical assemblies, electronics, and software.
Responsibilities
- Travel to fishing docks across the US (approximately 40% travel) and potentially internationally for long-term assignments.
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot our robotic fish processing systems on-site.
- Work with electro-mechanical assemblies, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
- Build and repair harnessing, ensuring robust electrical connections and system functionality.
- Utilize Command line interface (CLI) and Graphical user interfaces (GUI) tools to interact with robotic systems
- Operate power tools and standard industrial manufacturing machinery safely and effectively.
- Collaborate with the engineering team to improve system designs based on field feedback.
- All aspects of live fish handling, from the water to a packing facility. Building, operation, and maintenance of live fish storage infrastructure.
- Opportunity to work closely with users (Fisherman) for extended periods of time, and communicate learnings to engineering teams.
- Bonus: Enjoy lots of free delicious fish when we have an oversupply from testing.
- When not traveling, work onsite in El Segundo office with the engineers to build more robots, as well as provide important feedback from field deployments and fishermen.
Job Requirements
- 2+ years of experience working with electro-mechanical assemblies
- Experience with automotive, consumer electronics, or industrial crimp tooling.
- High proficiency with power tools and standard industrial manufacturing machinery.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in the field.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Willingness to travel extensively and adapt to various working environments.
Desired:
- 4+ years of experience working with electro-mechanical assemblies
- Experience with software and comfortable using Linux and command line interface (CLI) tools.
- (Bonus) Experience operating a mill and lathe.
