The Mechanical Design Engineer role focuses on developing and optimizing propulsion components for SpaceX's Falcon vehicles, contributing to advancements in space exploration and rocket reusability.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, develop, and ensure flight readiness of valves, regulators, and actuators on Falcon 9 and Dragon vehicles.
- Support and document component anomalies at build, test, or launch sites.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams on valve and vehicle investigations.
- Generate detailed drawings and coordinate valve manufacturing with the production team.
- Develop and execute qualification test plans to ensure readiness for flight.
- Lead root cause investigations and redesigns to enhance reliability and production rates.
- Certify hardware for crewed flight and repeated reuse through testing and analysis.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or physics.
- 1+ years of experience in designing and analyzing mechanical systems.
- Understanding of fluid systems and solid mechanics principles.
- Strong interpersonal skills and enthusiasm for problem-solving.
- Project management skills and effective communication across teams.
- Hands-on experience with fluid and/or gas handling systems.
- Knowledge of electro-mechanical devices and testing instrumentation.
