Phoenix Tailings is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for their Leadership Development Program aimed at individuals who are innovative and ready to tackle complex mechanical systems in clean mining and metals production.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and iterate on novel mechanical systems for rare earth and metal extraction processes.
- Lead equipment installation and scaling efforts across pilot and production systems.
- Solve real-time mechanical challenges using first-principles thinking and hands-on execution.
- Improve system reliability and efficiency through iterative mechanical optimization.
- Develop detailed fabrication drawings and oversee in-house and vendor-based part fabrication.
- Identify root causes of system failures and implement robust engineering solutions.
- Create test plans and execute performance evaluations for mechanical subsystems.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience designing, building, and operating mechanical systems in a lab or industrial setting.
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and mechanical design principles.
- Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks or equivalent) and mechanical analysis tools.
- Ability to thrive in high-intensity, ambiguous environments and own end-to-end projects.
- Hands-on fabrication or prototyping experience (machining, welding, assembly).
- Strong problem-solving mindset with the drive to build first-of-kind technology.
