Phoenix Tailings is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for their Leadership Development Program aimed at individuals who are innovative and ready to tackle complex mechanical systems in clean mining and metals production.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and iterate on novel mechanical systems for rare earth and metal extraction processes.
  • Lead equipment installation and scaling efforts across pilot and production systems.
  • Solve real-time mechanical challenges using first-principles thinking and hands-on execution.
  • Improve system reliability and efficiency through iterative mechanical optimization.
  • Develop detailed fabrication drawings and oversee in-house and vendor-based part fabrication.
  • Identify root causes of system failures and implement robust engineering solutions.
  • Create test plans and execute performance evaluations for mechanical subsystems.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, building, and operating mechanical systems in a lab or industrial setting.
  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and mechanical design principles.
  • Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks or equivalent) and mechanical analysis tools.
  • Ability to thrive in high-intensity, ambiguous environments and own end-to-end projects.
  • Hands-on fabrication or prototyping experience (machining, welding, assembly).
  • Strong problem-solving mindset with the drive to build first-of-kind technology.
