The Mechanical Design Engineer (Propulsion Components) role at SpaceX involves working on the Falcon team's reusable launch vehicles, focusing on the design, testing, and troubleshooting of electromechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic components essential for rocket propulsion and control systems.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, develop, and ensure flight readiness of valves, regulators, and actuators.
- Support and document component anomalies during build, test, or launch.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams on valve and vehicle investigations.
- Generate detailed drawings and coordinate valve manufacturing.
- Maintain component specifications and develop qualification test plans.
- Lead root cause investigations and redesigns to enhance reliability or production rate.
- Certify hardware for crewed flight and communicate analysis and test results.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or physics.
- 1+ years of experience in mechanical system design and analysis.
- Preferred: Master’s degree or additional professional experience in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
- Understanding of fluid systems and solid mechanics.
- Strong interpersonal skills and project management abilities.
- Hands-on experience with fluid and gas handling systems.
- Familiarity with electro-mechanical devices and test instrumentation.
